When Biggin Hill Airport needed to update the professional head shots and team portraits across multiple departments, they were faced with a challenge that many growing businesses experience. Staff worked different shifts, different teams were based across the airport, and taking everyone away from their roles at the same time simply wasn't practical.

Our brief was to create a complete library of professional staff portraits that looked as though they had all been photographed on the same day, while still reflecting the unique environment each department works in.

The Brief

Biggin Hill Airport wanted to refresh the photography used across their business with:

Rather than using the same backdrop for every portrait, each department was photographed in a location that felt authentic to their day-to-day work. This helped create images that were professional while still giving a genuine insight into the people behind the business.

The Challenge

Unlike many office-based businesses, an airport never really stops.

Different teams worked different hours, making it impossible to photograph everyone during a single session.

Instead of forcing the business to fit around the photography, we planned a series of monthly visits to capture staff during their normal working patterns. This meant minimal disruption to the business while allowing everyone to be included.

The challenge then became consistency.

Lighting changes, weather changes and even the time of year can all affect how portraits look. We wanted every employee to appear as though they had been photographed together.

Our Approach

To achieve this, we created a consistent lighting setup and camera position for every session for the head shots which we shot with the Biggin Hill Airport logo background.

After each shoot, we carefully edited the background of the head shots where required, ensuring every portrait matched perfectly with the rest of the team. The result was a professional set of staff portraits that felt seamless, despite being photographed over several months.

It's a small detail that makes a huge difference when the images are displayed together on a website, annual report, internal communications or LinkedIn profiles.

We also had the aim of creating hero shots for the team images, images which would stop people and make them spend some time looking at the whole image.
